About the Spiti Valley Road Trip

As the winter arrives, with it comes the most elusive cat out there, the Snow Leopard.

Spiti being a high altitude region, experiences long winters, and during these months as the snow descends down the mountains, Snow Leopards start arriving in search of their prey, however, their shy nature keeps them hidden from the general public eye, which is better for both animal and the humans, but mostly for the animals, which gets to live undisturbed without any human interaction.

On this adventure, we’re not only going to get a glimpse of this animal with some of the best local spotting guides, but will be learning more about the life during winters in this part of the Himalayas.

We begin our trip from Shimla, from where we gradually ascend towards Spiti via Rampur, and on roads crossing through Kinnaur region and Hangrang valley, before we enter the high altitude region of Spiti. Where snowclad mountains will be standing tall to welcome us into its secrets.

In Spiti, we move towards the village of Chichum at a height of above 14000 feet, a little ahead of the famous Kibber village.

And Chichum will be our mainstay during the trip, where we’ll be staying in local homestays, and during the day hours will be hiking in snow to camp at a distance, for glimpses of snow leopard.

The guides who’ll be taking us on this adventure will be local spotting guides, ensuring that at every time we are in harmony with nature, and we always act in a respectful manner towards the Snow Leopard and thus ensuring that the creature isn’t disturbed by our presence.
